If you work alone, you cannot answer the phone while you are working. That is not a scheduling problem to be optimised — it is arithmetic. Every call that arrives while your hands are busy is a client who either calls back, or calls someone else.
What booking online really replaces
It does not replace the phone. Plenty of clients will always prefer to speak to you, and they should. It replaces the calls that fail: the evening enquiry, the person who will not leave a voicemail, the one who would rather not interrupt you.
Those bookings arrive while you are on site, and they are waiting when you look at your phone.
Keeping control of the diary
The fear is reasonable: that a stranger fills your week with the wrong appointments. Three settings prevent it, and they are worth spending ten minutes on.
- What can be booked. List only the interventions whose duration you can predict. A quote visit, yes. «Repair», no — you do not yet know if it is twenty minutes or a day.
- When you are available. Publish narrower hours than you actually work. The margin absorbs the job that runs over.
- How far ahead. A minimum notice of a day or two stops someone booking you for eight tomorrow morning while you are asleep.
What arrives on your side
A notification, and the appointment in your diary. If you also run the Telegram or WhatsApp add-on, the alert reaches you on the app you already watch — which matters more than it sounds, because an email notification you read at nine in the evening is one you will forget by morning.
The appointments module is an add-on at 9 CHF per month. It is worth turning on once you have a diary worth protecting, not before.
